Chatoyant Malachite from Bisbee Arizona
Malachite is a copper ore bi-product. The lovely green color comes from copper. It forms in a botryoidal (bubbly) or stalactitic form (long tubes) which when cut, gives the agate-like banding or swirling patterns. Malachite with Chatoyancy is very rare and very beautiful. Chatoyancy is a Phenomenon of certain minerals which causes it to exhibit concentrated bands of reflected light across the polished face of the mineral. This material has a very nice silk sheen to it and will cut some excellent cabs. I picked up a couple of small pieces at Quartzite and I will offer just a few select pieces for lapidary rough. GOOD LUCK!
