Native Silver in Cobaltite designer gem 3/5/2019 01 - 52 x 16 x 4.7 mm - 48 carats - Here is a classy and unique cabochon from a rare form of native silver in a cobaltite matrix. This high grade material comes from Cobalt in Ontario, Canada and was mined pre-WW ll. This cabochon has fantastic silver metallic crystal patterns contrasting in the translucent grey and white matrix. This slick stone is difficult to photograph. The silvery areas are almost mirror-like. But as you can see from the pictures and video clip, it has a beautiful medium dome, girdled sides and a flat beveled back, all with high gloss luster.
