You are bidding on 1 Beautiful Beautiful Larimar aka "Atlantis Stone" From the Caribbean - Dominican Republic. Larimar is mined on only one Caribbean mountain and nowhere else. High on an isolated mountaintop, miners use only picks and shovels to remove this gorgeous stone. Larimar  was discovered in the 1970's It has an extraordinarily captivating blue color and dreamy patterns reminiscent of a tropical ocean. The name "Larimar" comes from the Dominican man who discovered the stone. It is a combination of his daughter’s name, Larissa and Mar, Spanish for the sea. Larimar is a variety of Pectolite composed of NaCa2Si3O8(OH), Sodium Calcium Silicate Hydroxide. It has a hardness of 5.0 on the Moh’s Scale and a Specific Gravity of 2.7 - 2.9. The crystals are vitreous, transparent to translucent. Pectolite also occurs in white or colorless, gray, light yellow, light brown, light blue and light pink colors. Pectolite is often confused with many other minerals with similar appearance including Okenite, Wollastonite, Artinite and others. Pectolite can be distinguished by its formation in cavities of basalt in igneous environments and is almost always associated with Zeolites. First discovered in 1828 in Mont Baldo and Mont Monzoni, Italy, Pectolite was not very popular until the last few decades when its ocean blue variety, Larimar has become one of the most prized of blue stones.
