| The name Malachite is derived from the Greek word "Malakhe" which means marshamallow plant because of the green color. This stone has a long history with the Egyptian cultures going as far back as 4000 B.C. when it wa heavily mined near the Suez Canal. The stone was used for many different forms of ornamental applications such as in statues and jewelry. One unique use was in makeup the Egyptian women used as eye makeup. The stone was often referred to as the Peacock Stone because of the eye like pattern it has which resembles the eye like pattern of peacock feathers. |
